It’s National Flip Flop day and, go on admit it, I know you love yours, but did you know this is what they do to your feet?
On this day we’re celebrating the summer shoes that don’t leave your toes gripping on for dear life…and they look kinda cool too! Here’s a list of our favourite alternatives to flip flops that you might want to feature in your shoe closet this summer.
Xero Shoes Umara Z-Trail
These super comfy, lightweight sandals are a big hit at MUTU Towers as the weather starts to warm up! They are durable enough to be worn almost anywhere and their trail-friendly design means we can go exploring during our daily walk! UK Mamas and US Mamas, click here.

We love the design of the Kolhapuri. It’s inspired by ancient Indian cobblers and we think this would be an awesome addition to your summer closet! Handcut Pandora Vivobarefoot
The perfect substitute for a flip flop. Easy to slip on and can be worn poolside or dressed up for a warm summer evening.Mata Canvas Vivobarefoot

I love all the barefoot companies products but for a low income household, what brands that are cheaper could I purchase? Would Keds (kids?) work? In the photo there are converse shoes. Is there a list for cheaper brands to get started with?
Thanks!!
Thanks for the suggestion, but apart for the comment below I couldn’t find any suggestion or recommendation why don’t use flip flop, you should mention on the article.
Because you have to grip them to keep them on your feet Laura – this prevents the muscles of your feet from functioning as they should in natural walking. Lots more alignment and feet articles here! https://mutusystem.com/cate…
Hey! Are you familiar with Ipanema sandals? What do you think of them? I really like them, but I never tried on any real barefoot shoes, so I don’t know if they are similar enough…
Hey Zulejka,
No, I’m not but I just had a look and they look awesome! With sandals, as long as there’s a strap over the top and round the back of the foot, stopping you from having to grip on with your toes to keep the shoe on, that’s great. Some of the more flip flop style ones wouldn’t be suitable but there’s plenty of good choices on their site. Great find! 🙂 x
