After the birth of my third baby I was eager to start the process of losing the “baby weight”. Since this was my third baby and second C Section, things were just feeling really bad and seeming very saggy. My back hurt and my belly was really puffed out in a way that it never had with my other two births. Right before 3 months postpartum, I decided to get back into the groove and kick it into high gear with a traditional exercise program. It came with the eating guidelines and such. I killed myself for my first full week and was surprised at the end of the week to find my stomach was even larger! I figured it was just because I was just getting started and went after it hard the next week.
By the end of week two my back hurt so bad that I was scared to bend over with my infant because I didn’t know if I’d be able to stand back up, and my belly bulge was even larger! I know this because I took all my before measurements like I was supposed to.
I needed something where the time commitment wasn’t huge and the exercises were reasonable.
How do I heal diastasis recti?
After crying for a few days, I started to do research, found out about DR and weighed the pros and cons of the various programs that offered DR solutions. I decided to go with MUTU because it seemed do-able at a time when I was feeling incredibly upset. I home school my two other children, help my husband with his business and had an infant. I needed something where the time commitment wasn’t huge and the exercises were reasonable.
I realized that the little bit of pee I was leaking wasn’t normal.

My MUTU story started at around 3 months postpartum. I took my before pictures and measured my gap to be 3 fingers, middle knuckle deep. My back was still in great pain, and I realized that the little bit of pee I was leaking wasn’t normal, and I also realized that the uncomfortable “low uterus issues” I’d been having since after the birth of my second child weren’t normal either. My MUTU journey certainly hasn’t been linear. I start, then I stop. I get very motivated, go for a solid month and then life gets busy and I lose track of it for a couple weeks. I’ve been doing MUTU off and on for 7 months. I have never gotten past week 6, but I know someday I will and I fully plan to keep going. What has been constant in the past 7 months is that I always come back to it, not always the intensives, but always to the core exercises, and for the past 5 months I’ve been 100% dialed in to MUTU Food nutrition. I switched out my shoes and find it funny that the knee pain I’ve had off and on for years isn’t even an issue any longer.

After 7 months of doing MUTU off and on my gap has gone from the 3 fingers, knuckle deep, to 1/2-1 finger wide (it’s always the 1 finger during menstruation) and VERY strong connective tissue. Because I’ve overhauled my diet and only eat real, whole foods, I have also lost 50 pounds. But make no mistake, losing weight alone would not and could not have healed my DR.
I’ve fixed parts of my body that doctors say need surgery and that’s crazy to me.
So what now?
Every body is different but I feel that MUTU has helped me in a way that I didn’t know an exercise program could. I didn’t know I was broken and once I found out I was scared I couldn’t be fixed. I hear other moms talking about how it’s normal to leak urine while sneezing and I tell them it doesn’t have to be this way! I don’t feel that I’m finished though. I keep going with MUTU and would like to finish the whole program WITH the Intensives. Not because I feel that I’ll be “done” at that point, but because I’ve seen through this journey that I don’t need to walk this in a linear fashion, I just need to keep going. I also adore what the Intensives do for my butt and am feeling that after following the nutrition part of MUTU and losing 50 pounds that I certainly could use all those squats!
Lastly, Yes, I’ve healed my DR, I’ve lost weight, but after it all, I’ve still had 3 babies. I still have stretch marks, and I’ll always have that extra little bit of “mommy skin” and a slight lower bulge where I snugly cradled each of them for 9 months. Truthfully, this is ok with me because I no longer feel broken – I feel strong.
