Baby showers are usually a chance for friends and family to utterly spoil you and your baby. Tiny little outfits, cute little toys, maybe even a massage for mom. Let’s face it though, once baby arrives it’s ALL about that little bundle of joy.

MUTU Mama and mom to 1, Starr, received the most unexpected gift from a friend. That friend knew that mamas could use a little TLC too and that MUTU System was the perfect way to support her friend post-birth. It’s the kind of gift you don’t know you need until you know. When you’re in that pregnancy bubble, you don’t think about things like pelvic floor dysfunction, diastasis recti, back pain and all the other joys postpartum can throw at you.

We were delighted when Starr agreed to speak to us about her MUTU System journey.

Tell us a bit about you and your family.

I live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband and almost three-year-old daughter. I had never heard MUTU System but then I actually got it as a gift at my baby shower when I was about 8 months pregnant. My friend thought it would be perfect for me.

Describe your symptoms before you started MUTU?

I was tired and achy but also wanted to get back in shape. Yet at the same time, I just couldn’t go full throttle with my pre-pregnancy workouts, but I needed to move. Before pregnancy, I worked out about 5 days a week. I did pole, pilates, strength training, and HIIT so that was a lot.

Tell us about any bumps in the road and any victories.

I thought the program was very gentle and informative yet also effective. There was a lot of information presented that I don’t think a lot of women know.

What was your favorite part of the program?

Just being able to move and get those endorphins going.

Now you’ve completed the program, tell us about your results and how far you’ve come.

Physically I felt better prepared to ease back into working out again. I saw improvement in my posture and my back pain. It was unexpected because I didn’t go into the program with expectations.

Looking back. What would you say to your ‘before MUTU self’?

Be kind to yourself and if you have to do the program multiple times before getting back into your full workout groove then that’s fine.

How has MUTU impacted your life personally?

It has impacted my life in that I learned a lot more about what happened to my core and why it may be weaker after giving birth. That has impacted me personally because I’m just like, why didn’t anyone tell me? I have been a dancer and athlete my entire life and I never knew about diastasis recti.
