There’s often a misconception that postpartum recovery is for brand new mamas with babies under 2. You see, the thing is, the postpartum period never really ends once you’ve had kids. While I was pregnant, my back ached to the point of incapacitation. Whenever the baby kicked me in the middle below my belly button, it was startlingly painful. After the baby was born, my back was a little better, but my belly was incredibly painful. I was holding my stomach in my arms to laugh, to sneeze, and to drive over bumps in the road.
Feeling so weak and fragile, I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror. I felt like any thought of even low-level active family fun (kayaking/frisbee/long walks) was pretty much a daydream. I wondered if I was going to …embarrass myself… when I sneezed or lifted my oldest child.

MUTU is doable. I can’t emphasize enough how totally ineffective my core was, and the program is so carefully crafted for women in exactly my condition, so I could start at this very low level and know I was on the road to strength.
Going through the program I have the usual human problems with consistency. I got way more reliable when my mom joined, and now we are work out partners. She’s 2000 miles away, but we text and talk every day. I am very proud that here in module 4, the stability of my core is already enough to carry out my day to day work.

If you’re afraid it won’t work, give it a chance, a good solid chance. If you think your core is too far gone, it’s not, MUTU will build you back up. My daughter Katie told me about the program and that she was doing it. At first, I thought I’d do it just to support her efforts. I wasn’t sure what could be done after 31 years, but the more I learned the more I wanted to do it just for me.
When I first started, just 5 weeks ago, I didn’t think I had any particular symptoms. Now I am recognizing that some things I just thought were normal parts of ageing aren’t necessary and may be corrected.

We older mums didn’t have all the information about our bodies as readily available as young women do today. I think many of us just assumed that problems with leaking urine, prolapse related issues, weight gain, etc, were just the price we paid for our dear children. Some older mums seem to have just given up on their wellbeing, turning instead to food or shopping. I understand the temptation but I am beginning to see already that it is not too late to correct these problems, gently and with lots of encouragement.
