Why You Still Don’t Feel Like “You” Months After Childbirth

There is a moment that so many women reach, quietly, on their own.

Your baby is a toddler now, or maybe starting school. Life has picked back up. But something still feels off. A disconnection in your middle. A softness that doesn’t feel like yours. A strange instability when you lift or carry.

You waited. You were told to wait. And yet here you are, still not feeling like you, months after childbirth

This is not because you did something wrong. And it is not because you missed a window. It is because time, on its own, cannot restore function. Your body is not broken. It is waiting for a different kind of input.

Why sit-ups make it worse, not better

If you have tried crunches and noticed your tummy pushing outward — doming along the midline — that is useful information. It is your body telling you the pressure is going the wrong way.

When the deep core is not coordinating properly, more effort does not help. It pushes against the very tissue you are trying to support.

What is actually happening

During pregnancy, the connective tissue down the centre of your abdomen stretched to make room for your baby. That was your body doing exactly what it was designed to do. After birth, that tissue needs more than time to firm up and function again. It needs to be retrained.

Think of a sprained ankle. Rest removes the pain, but it does not restore your balance. Your core works the same way.

What Changes Things

Before strength is possible, your nervous system needs to find those muscles again — without the pressure that works against healing. MUTU starts there. With breath. With coordination. With movements that draw things together rather than force them apart, building gradually toward the lifting and carrying and moving that make up your actual life and get you back to feeling like you months after childbirth

Your Safe Next Step

It does not matter whether it has been six months or six years. Your body is responsive. It is not too late.

You do not need to push harder. When you’re just not feeling like yourself, months after childbirth, you need clarity on what is actually going on — and a safe path forward from there.
