Hi, my name is Helen and I was introduced to the NNUH Trial through another mum I met at antenatal classes who had seen an article in the local paper and signed up. We both had our second child within days of each other and she thought the programme might be useful.
Symptoms that led to joining the NNUH Trial
The main symptom I was dealing with before the trial was leaking wee when I was exercising or coughing/sneezing. Even picking the children up if my bladder was full was enough to cause me to leak. I had struggled since the birth of my first child (an episiotomy and forceps delivery) and despite seeing the physiotherapy team my pelvic floor was not in great shape. My second child was born by caesarean section and as a result I was also suffering with lower back pain.
Seeing Results Quickly in Lock Down
I saw results almost immediately and by module 3 there was a huge difference. I was able to pick the children up without having to really concentrate on not leaking and I could join in running games with my little boy spontaneously. I also noticed that my posture was better and the lower back pain I had struggled with post caesarean section had really improved.
The most surprising result I achieved with MUTU is the amount of weight I lost. I have always been in the healthy BMI range but I am now a stone lighter than I was pre-children and I feel confident wearing a bikini which is something I thought would never happen again.
I am a creature of habit and MUTU helped me to keep a routine during lockdown, something that really helped as I was also on maternity leave. I think MUTU definitely helped my mental health during lockdown too. It helped me to have some ‘me’ time and focus every day and also made me feel stronger and fitter which made me feel better about myself.
Recommending MUTU
I would definitely recommend MUTU, five of my friends have already signed up! My 69 year old mum has even joined in on some of my workouts and noticed a difference.
MUTU has given me confidence in my body again, something which I was definitely lacking in after having children. I feel strong and fit and like anything is possible
If you are unsure whether MUTU is the right fit or not I would say, what have you got to lose? You only have to look at the supermarket shelves to see all the incontinence products available for women to know what awaits you if you do nothing.
I would definitely say you get out what you put in with the programme, but the workouts are short and easy to follow, you can repeat modules as often as you like (I took 9 months to finally complete the programme) but the feeling of accomplishment when you’ve finished and the freedom it gives you from not having to worry about leaking anymore is worth its weight in gold.
