It takes steel-like self-esteem to be totally cool with your post pregnancy body. There’s a HUGE adjustment and upheaval in the months after giving birth that NO ONE prepares you for.
Every inch of you is sore and things feel alien and weird. If you’ve taken the mirror down there, then things sure as hell don’t look like they did before either.
- Leaky undercarriage
- Feeling like your insides might fall out
- An empty tummy that’s now poochy and soft
- Emotions all over the place
- Breasts that give Pamela Anderson a run for her money… with the addition of milk leakage and the inability to be hugged too tightly…
Welcome to your postpartum body – We hope you enjoy the ride!
This is the stuff you can’t really prepare for. There’s no one size fits all when it comes to the weeks and months after giving birth. You might be totally cool with it, but you might also be thinking, what the heck just happened? Who am I? What’s my name? Will I ever feel normal again?
All of these questions are normal and despite the brave face many of us put on, moms everywhere have asked them time and time again!
For some moms it takes months, maybe even years to build bridges with their postpartum body.. Sadly, some never do but it’s never too late to.
There is a proven, truly effective, tried and tested solution for ‘mummy tummy’, diastasis recti, pelvic floor weakness and core that isn’t as functional or strong as you’d like it to be – you can learn more about MUTU System here.
So how do we do it? How can we rekindle the connection with our body?
Step #1 Start by ignoring the “get your body back” crap thrown at you from all angles. Your body is still the same body, only now it’s done a ton of cool stuff. Don’t hate on the body that grew your baby and helped you to bring them into the world. Build on it’s awesomeness, nourish it with good food and show yourself some love.
Step #2 Stop putting your own health at the bottom of the to do pile every day. To reconnect with your body, you need to acknowledge it and give it the time to heal.
Step #3 Make time. Quit waiting for spare time, it isn’t coming! There is no spare time for moms, so you MUST make time. Call on the help and support of family, friends, partners.
Step #4 Spend 10 minutes each day, just sitting and breathing… (I know, duh! But bear with me). Check out MUTU Breathe in the MUTU System program. Breathing techniques are vital in reducing stress and reconnecting with your body in a gentle and healing way. Don’t overlook this powerful tool.
Step #5 Spend 2-3 minutes every day rubbing your favourite moisturiser (I love coconut oil) all over your body. A friend suggested this to me years ago, it’s the simplest thing, but it meant I’d stop for those few minutes to connect with my body, give myself a little TLC and keep my skin feeling lovely and pampered. Try it today!
Step #6 Walk outside. You might feel like all you want to do is stay inside and hibernate right not, but move your body and get outside every day if you can. Natural movement and fresh air are vitally important in the weeks and months postpartum.
Step #7 Do some mindful, gentle exercise (with your doctor’s blessing) to help reconnect with the muscles in your core and pelvic floor. It doesn’t matter how many months or years postpartum you are, those muscles are still the same, they just need waking up and talking too.
The MUTU System is a medically reviewed and doctor recommended exercise and recovery program with step-by-step instructions and exercises that only take 15 to 20 minutes, that will help you strengthen your core and pelvic floor, lose weight, and feel confident and sexy again.
